When LVP makes more sense
LVP is the better choice for most homeowners, especially in moisture-prone areas. Its waterproof core means standing water and pet accidents clean up without lasting damage, and it's quieter and softer underfoot than laminate.
When laminate makes more sense
Laminate can be a good budget option for dry, above-grade rooms. Water-resistant laminate can handle minor spills if cleaned quickly, but standing water will cause permanent damage — so it's best kept out of bathrooms, basements, and other moisture-prone spaces.

In North Carolina's humid climate, we strongly recommend LVP over laminate for most applications. The waterproof benefit alone makes LVP worth the modest price premium — the long-term value is better because LVP lasts longer and won't be damaged by moisture.
